Meet Duke, a sweet and happy two year-old available for adoption at the Rushville Animal Shelter! Duke has recently discovered his love of toys and will sit for a treat any time you want to give him one … and look at that face, how can you deny this boy a treat? He’s great with kids, dogs and other cats, but he might need some help with his manners around tiny humans. The bad news is that Duke tested positive for heartworm, but thankfully there are so many great options for treatment nowadays! (Check with your local vet and ask about slow treatment versus fast treatment for heartworm and what would work best for your finances. Slow treatment can take up to four years, but it’s typically less expensive, whereas fast treatment can be completed in three to four months, but it’s more expensive.) I know there’s someone out there willing to give this sweetheart a chance, although I know taking on a heartworm-positive dog can be challenging.
