Best Reasons to Spay/Neuter Your Pet
– One dog and her offspring can produce around 67,000 puppies in six years; one cat and her offspring can produce around 420,000 kittens in seven years; one rabbit and her offspring can produce around 185 BILLION bunnies in seven years.
– WebMD has a great list of 10 reasons to spay/neuter your pet, including health benefits for the animal itself and its cost-effectiveness.

Pets CAN Help Your Health!
Check out this fascinating article on WebMD of how pets are more than just great snuggle buddies, but can improve both your physical and mental health!
Furry Celebs Found in Shelters
Not every animal TV, movie or internet star was bought from a breeder … this is a great list of famous animals adopted from shelters or rescues.
Are You Ready to Adopt?
Before you even go to the shelter or submit an application to adopt a dog, there are several questions you need to ask yourself. These are great checklists, courtesy of Petfinder.

Fostering vs. Adoption
Not sure you’re ready to adopt, but still want to help? Fostering is a great way to give some love and TLC to animals who need it AND help your local shelter or rescue be able to assist other animals in need by freeing up some of their resources. Petfinder has a great article to help you determine if fostering is right for you!
What Kind of Dog or Cat Is Right for Me?
It’s always good to do plenty of research about the breeds you would potentially be interested in adopting, whether you’re looking for a dog OR cat.

Where Should I Look?
Petfinder and Pedigree are both fantastic places to look for animals in search of their forever homes, but not every shelter has their adoptable animals on the site. Make sure to check the websites of your city and/or county’s animal control for valuable information (hours of operation, phone number, address, etc.), ways to donate/volunteer AND check out the animals up for adoption. I’ve included links to the websites of every single shelter or rescue in the state of Indiana and hope to expand to the Louisville, Chicago and Cincinnati areas in the future! Please message me if you know of a shelter or rescue that I forgot to list!

Indiana Animal Cruelty Laws
If you suspect an animal is being abused or you know someone committing any form of animal cruelty, please call your local law enforcement immediately. Here is a link to Indiana’s Animal Cruelty Laws.
*Disclaimer: Views expressed on this page are my opinion – I’m an animal-lover and dog mom, not a veterinarian or legal advocate for any specific organization. I have had unsuccessful adoptions myself, so I’m definitely not an expert … I just know what has and has not worked for me and my family and I accept no legal responsibility if adoptions are unsuccessful. My blog was created to spread awareness about animals needing homes, promote adoption over shopping and breeding and encourage spaying and neutering to help put an end to unnecessary euthanasia. I strongly encourage everyone to do their own research (beyond this blog) before adopting an animal … good luck!
