Meet Podunk! *UPDATE: ADOPTED!!!*

Meet Podunk (or Poe, for short), a handsome two year-old American Bulldog/Lab mix available for adoption at the Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter! Poor Poe has had a very rough start to life after being abandoned in the middle of nowhere (hence, his name) … there wasn’t a house in sight when he was found in early January and he was so fortunate to be brought in by animal control before he froze to death. Because he was brought in as a stray, his history is one big question mark, from his age to his breed, but he’s a sweet boy who enjoys people once given a chance to warm up. Poe was also fortunate to be chosen by the amazing Vet Tech program and is now back at the shelter, turnkey-ready for his very own forever home! Podunk is now neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all his vaccinations. Poe was adopted last year from this amazing shelter, but his “owners” (I use that term VERY loosely) let him get picked up and taken to the Rush County Animal Shelter and told them they could keep him and refused to pick him up. He was 15 pounds underweight, scared and neglected, so thank God he was finally returned to the good people at Shelbyville where he is getting some much needed TLC. Please remember that if an adoption doesn’t work out, return the animal to the original shelter where it can find the right home, don’t just abandon or neglect them. Don’t let Poe feel left out in the cold from joining your loving forever family! Anyone interested in Podunk, feel free to stop by any weekday between the hours of 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM and please check the link above for adoption requirements. Once your application has been approved, you get to take Podunk home that day!  Any additional questions, please email Chris Browder at or call at (317) 392-5127.

Podunk is …
– a loyal and playful boy who needs you to be patient in earning his trust and love.
– good with children, but best as the only pet in the home.
– housebroken.
– neutered.
– microchipped.
– up-to-date on all vaccinations and wormed.
– FREE to his loving, forever home!
