Meet Eli, a shy six year-old pot-bellied pig available for adoption at Oinking Acres Farm Rescue & Sanctuary! Eli was rescued with 41 (yes, 41!) other pigs in an animal hoarding case that Oinking Acres worked in September of 2022 and has come a long way in the last eight months. Eli can be very shy at first, but warms up quickly once he’s been tempted with snacks and is as sweet as can be! Because Eli has always lived in a large herd with several other pigs, it’s very important that he be adopted to a home with other pigs, though he would love to be adopted with a buddy from Oinking Acres. Pot-bellied pigs are similar to dogs in the sense that they can be house-trained, leash-trained and can learn tricks, but they’re also very stubborn and sensitive. The average lifespan of a pot-bellied pig is anywhere from 12 to 20 years and if you put in the time and love with your little oinker, you’ll have the undying love and loyalty of your pig. Eli is neutered and microchipped and is more than ready to find his forever home. If you’re interested in a snorting good time and would like to adopt Eli, please fill out an adoption application online. His adoption fee is $150 ($250 if you want to adopt a pair), though if you’re out of state it costs an additional $100 and your pig must have a health certificate (Oinking Acres takes their pigs to Purdue Large Animal Hospital to have this done and receive the document).
Eli is …
– a shy boy who needs time and treats, but warms up quickly and then is as sweet as can be!
– currently an outdoor pig in a large herd and needs to be adopted with another pig.
– neutered.
– microchipped.
I’ve included a link on keeping pot-bellied pigs as pets … please consider adopting a pig, they’re wonderful animals!
